Shantungosaurus is a genus of saurolophine hadrosaurid from the Campanian epoch of the Cretaceous period.

The Shantungosaurus was added to The Isle on the game's release along with Puertasaurus, Austroraptor, Carnotaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Gallimimus.

In Real Life[]

Shantungosaurus was the largest known hadrosaur, reaching between 48-54 feet (14.7-16.6 meters) in length, and weighed up to 18 tons. It also had 1,500 teeth in its jaws.

In The Isle[]

Though the Shantungosaurus is not particularly fast, it can still outrun or outstam most large predators, with the exception of Giganotosaurus. It can attack their foes with a very high damage output that can smash even the largest of predators in only a few stomps. This coupled with their impressively high health and weight makes them a prey item most predators would prefer to avoid.

It is currently only selectable in Sandbox mode, but can be nested in the Survival during events.

General overview:[]

Pros:[]

  • Extremely high health and weight
  • When the mass is accounted for, Shant stomps do the highest damage of any creature in the game, excluding strains and sauropods.
  • Great Bleed Resistance.
  • Decent damage/head attack.
  • Loses hunger very slowly.
  • Fast for its size, its sprinting speed is faster than every apex except for T-Rex.
  • Good turn speed when running.
  • No slide.
  • Able to take on any carnivore in the game.
  • A fully grown juvenile shant can outrun every apex and is faster than a parasaurolophus (But it has much less stamina).
  • A fully grown shant can kill a Suchomimus in one hit with its alternate attack.

Cons:[]

  • It is fairly easy to spot.
  • Below average stamina.
  • Stomps cost a lot of stamina
  • Cannot stomp with a broken leg
  • Stomps are slow and prevent the Shant from turning during the animation, making them less useful if the Shant's opponent remains mobile during the fight or baits it out.
  • Can be overpowered by apex predators if caught off guard or injured.
  • Bad turn radius and speed when z-turning or trot turning.
  • Terrible health regeneration.

It has been stated by the developers that the Shantungosaurus would need a heavy remodel and also a heavy rework, so it's possible the Shantungosaurus would get completely redone in all aspects. This is due sometime long after the recode.
