The Diet System as it exists in Evrima is a mechanic added as an improvement of the diet system in Legacy which expands upon different food choices and lifestyles.
This diet system allows the player to eat selectively, choosing what foods they eat to result in a specific outcome- from growth times, to buffs, to egg incubation.
The original skeleton of Evrima's diet system was introduced in Update #4 and further reworked during Update #6 with gore.
Types[]
So far, there are three different types of nutrients, symbolized as seen in game-
In the first iteration of Diets, herbivores will have 3 preferred food types based on their anatomy that correspond to 3 different nutrients. These nutrients can further be mixed and matched for various different buffs and advantages that can cater to different lifestyles. For example, the Tenontosaurus has Mountain Ash, Wild Potato Root and Radish Root as its dietary foods as it can swim surprisingly well, so its food is located near water sources. All herbivores only have three different "species" of food to gather in order to fulfill their dietary needs.
For information on individual plant species, see Diets and Subsistence.
For carnivores, their range of food broadens greatly. They, like herbivores, have to obtain each nutrient from a different source, however there are usually around three prey items for each nutrient. Carnivores get the exact same buffs from different nutrient combinations as herbivores do - as it's universal - but there is one advantage. Carnivores have the luxury of being able to scavenge the organs of dead animals in order to fill certain diets, as there are certain organs which correspond to certain nutrients, regardless of the nutrient the original dinosaur pairs with. For example, a Carnotaurus might fulfill an Omni's S nutrient, but their intestines will start filling the // nutrient instead.
If a carnivore (excluding Deinosuchus) eats his own species, or commits cannibalism, they will have severe repercussions. Firstly, they will begin to lose all of their nutrients at a significantly faster rate than normal. They will also begin to have muscle spasms, which, so far, are just biting randomly. Their buffs from whatever diet combination they had will decrease at a rapid rate, and one may experience vomiting. They will also become temporarily infertile, meaning that they will not be able to nest for a certain amount of time, depending on how much of the corpse they ate. Additionally, the dinosaur may also become insane, which, unfortunately, has no effect just yet.
Stats[]
- 1% of Diet is lost every 30 seconds
- Perfect Diet begins to deteriorate roughly 10 seconds after 1 diet reaches 0%
- Eating non-dietary foods gives no debuffs, only hunger
"The diet system ushers in an entirely new way to play. The food you eat will not only vary in satiation but also in effect. Both good and bad. Growing at a steady rate will require your species to eat selectively and to travel great distances to find the best meals. Will you focus on maximizing your growth rate with a balanced diet? Or do you prefer a more exotic diet that can lead to... unexpected results?"

Diet Combinations[]
Buffs[]
Diet combinations are an incredibly important part of The Isle and your survival. They cater towards preferred lifestyles and different advantages that could pair well with certain dinosaurs.
Here are the current combinations for Evrima as a table and downloadable infographic:

∴ | S | // | Growth Rate Increased +100%
Sprint/Swimming Cost Decreased +15% |
∴ | ∴ | ∴ | Growth Rate Increased +30%
Sprint/Swimming Cost Decreased +15% |
∴ | ∴ | // | Growth Rate Increased +50%
Scent/NV Range Increased +10% Stamina Decay Decreased +15% Sprint/Swimming Cost Decreased +15% |
∴ | ∴ | S | Growth Rate Increased +50%
Health/Locked Health Regen Increased +10% Sprint/Swimming Cost Decreased +15% Fracture Resist Increased +10% |
// | // | // | Growth Rate Increased +30%
Scent/NV Range Increased +15% |
// | // | ∴ | Growth Rate Increased +50%
Sprint/Swimming Cost Decreased +10% Scent/NV Range Increased +15% Blood Regen Increased +10% |
// | // | S | Growth Rate Increased +50%
Health/Locked Health Regen Increased +10% Scent/NV Range Increased +15% Bleed Resist Increased +10% |

S | S | // | Growth Rate Increased +50%
Health/Locked Health Regen Increased +15% Scent/NV Range Increased +10% Egg Incubation Speed Increased +10% |

The optimal diet combination for growth, especially for longer-timed animals such as Stegosaurus or Deinosuchus, would be a combination of all three nutrients which gives you a shocking 50% growth rate buff. So a 6-hour growth animal is reduced to 3 hours almost instantly upon getting the diet.
The rest of the diets are there to test with each animal. A stamina-reliant animal may want the 15% Sprint/Swimming Cost Decreased and -15% stam drain from the "∴ ∴ //" diet.
To get the buffs from the desired nutrient, the dinosaur must fill the nutrient slot all the way to 100%. This is indicated through the slot lighting up.
Malnourishment and Debuffs[]
Having NO diet, without any nutrition filled, gives you the status malnourished, and has multiple debuffs including;
- -75% Growth & Infertile
- -50% Defense
- -25% Health and Locked Health
- -25% Stamina and Blood Regen
- -25% Scent and NV Range
- -25% Attack Power
- -25% Bleed Resistance
- +25% Health and Stamina Drain
As suggested, having no diet is extremely discouraged and prevents most players from AFK growing as it ends with a severe disadvantage.
History[]
The diet system was originally introduced in Update #4, and it worked pretty differently than it does as of now.
- All food filled carnivore's dietary needs from juvenile up to about sub-adult, where they'd then be forced to find certain foods to fulfill their needs.
- The only "good" combination of nutrients was one of each type - giving considerable buffs, but not customizable in any way.
- The max growth buff one could get was 125%.
