Coelacanths are an order extant fish belonging to the genus Latimeria: The West Indian Ocean Coelacanth - a species usually found off the east coast of Africa - and the Indonesian Coelacanth.

In Real Life[]

Coelacanths are large lobe-finned fish - growing to more than 2 meters (6 feet 6 inches) and weigh around 90 kilograms (200 pounds).

Coelacanths are accredited for the fact that their species has existed since the Early Devonian period (approximately 409 million years ago), surviving multiple mass-extinction events throughout history - although their ancestors were smaller than their extant descendants.

They follow the oldest-known living lineage of Sarcopterygii (lobe-finned fish), meaning they are more closely related to lungfish and tetrapods instead of any extant ray-finned fish.

In The Isle[]

Coelacanths are an upcoming AI Elite Fish that inhabit bodies of water in Evrima, being introduced to co-inside with the new fishing mechanics.

They are one of the few Elite Fish to be revealed so far, along with the Channel Catfish.
