The Isle Wiki

Ceratosaurus is a ceratosaurid from the late Kimmeridgian and early Tithonian faunal stages of the Late Jurassic epoch.

Ceratosaurus was added to The Isle alongside Dilophosaurus in the dev branch in Patch 0.1.16.4160, and both were released to the public in Patch 0.1.16.4262.

In Real Life[]

Ceratosaurus was a medium-sized carnivore that preyed on the smaller dinosaurs like Dryosaurus, as well as fish, crocodiles and other small and mid-sized animals. Its only contesters being Allosaurus.

Ceratosaurus had a large skull with large teeth, as well as short but powerful front limbs. It likely used the head as its main weapon, as the front limbs are too small for full combat use.

One of Ceratosaurus's most distinct features was the nasal crest from which the name derives; most paleontologists agree that it would have been for display, meaning the crest would probably have been brightly colored in life.

Ceratosaurus had a row of osteoderms running down its back; given their blunt shape and position, they were likely to display or species recognition tools, and no armor or weapons. The tail of Ceratosaurus comprised about half of the body's total length and was thin and flexible with high vertebral spines.

Ceratosaurus was found in the Morrison Formation of North America and the Lourinhã Formation of Portugal and possibly the Tendaguru Formation of Tanzania. Its relatives include Genyodectes and Elaphrosaurus. While most theropods at the time had only three fingers on each hand, Ceratosaurus retained the ancestral fourth digit.

In The Isle[]

Nimble, strong, and puny, Ceratosaurus is a quick medium-sized carnivore that hunts small-medium sized creatures. While capable of stealing the kills of smaller predators and pose threat to slightly larger predators, it is generally best to avoid confrontation with larger dinosaurs.

Ceratosaurus preys on small and medium-sized dinosaurs such as Pachycephalosaurus, Dilophosaurus, young Allosaurus, smaller sub-adult apexes and juvenile dinosaurs. Possessing almost unparalleled agility and a powerful bite, Ceratosaurus is a dangerous predator very capable of outmaneuvering and killing similarly-sized dinosaurs, especially when in a forested area. In an event where a Ceratosaurus encounters a larger, more powerful carnivore such as Apex Predators, it is fast enough to outrun and escape them as direct confrontation will usually lead to it’s own death.

Ceratosaurus will be capable of eating anything "without incurring any negative side effects", something that will be added to Evrima alongside Magyarosaurus. It will probably have a close relationship with this sauropod, as they are of similar size and the new diet system will play into both of them.

"The oversized honey badger of the Isle. With an iron stomach, its able to dig into many putrid carcasses that might otherwise poison other carnivores. Even cannibalism isn’t far from the menu. A vicious bully with a vicious bite, but when it can’t chase its foe away, having a more hydrodynamic body than its peers can give it an edge to take the food and run."

-DevBlog #8 Tapwing

"A stout carnivore, easily recognized by it's distinct nasal horns and it's astonishingly robust digestive system that allows it to feed upon the most putrid of carcasses without incurring any negative side effects."

Characterization[]

The ceratosaurus is billed as a tough, bullying garbage disposal. Though it is neither particularly fast nor damaging for its size, ceratosaurus is an extremely durable animal.  With its shortcomings as a hunter, it excels beyond most as a scavenger. Ceratosaurus is capable of detecting rotting corpses and bones much further than other animals on the roster, easily consuming these otherwise undesirable leftovers as an alternate survival tactic. This loads its mouth with bacteria, increasing in potency the more the remain have decayed.

Speed[]

Ceratosaurus is slow for a theropod of its size, however this animal attacks incredibly fast. Combining this with a bacterial bite makes this animal particularly difficult to move if they do not want to.

Feeding Habits[]

Certatosaurus has an insatiable appetite. It can detect decaying, rotting corpses, bones, and vomit from great distances. The further along the decay, the further the distance a ceratosaurus can pick up the scent. It also consumes food at an increased rate and amount. This allows even a single ceratosaurus to deplete the food value of a body with alarming speed. Due to the amount of food they consume, sustaining large packs is difficult. This animal is food aggressive and forcefully chuffs when approached if food is nearby.

Constitution[]

The thick skin of the ceratosaurus makes it difficult to apply meaningful damage to them by creatures even larger than themselves. Not only does it have an innate stronger resistance to bleeds, but it has a temporary bleed reduction until sufficiently wounded. Also, while eating the ceratosaurus becomes immune to damage beneath a certain threshold, allowing it to completely brush off minor attacks and harassment from smaller animals while focusing on itself.

Noteworthy Characteristics[]

Ceratosaurus’s mouth is teeming with bacteria from the rotting corpses it consumes. Excessive damage from this animal can cause creatures to vomit uncontrollably over time, including animals larger than itself. This is something only solved by finding a salt lick, or waiting out the effects.

Ceratosaurus can eat any meat, organs, or bones regardless of freshness and does not suffer from overeating in the same manner as other animals. Overindulging in food reinvigorates the strength and potency of its bacterial bite.

Note: Ceratosaurus has already been released in evrima, (Update #6.5) and we have to wait for it to get updated

General overview:[]

Legacy[]

Pros:[]

  • Agile Hunter.
  • Fast. Decent damage output, and stamina
  • Best turn radius.
  • Best turn speed.
  • Quick stamina regeneration.
  • Relatively short grow time and low hunger.
  • Very fast health regeneration.
  • Bleed heals quite fast while sitting
  • Fast bite rate.
  • A highly skilled player can take on bigger dinosaurs with ease.
  • Extremely powerful full juvenile stage. (some may argue that it is better than the adult stage)
  • 100% grown juvenile stage does more bleed than a full adult.

Cons:[]

  • Very low bleed resistance.
  • Very low bleed damage.
  • Mediocre ambush. (1.1x multiplier for 8 seconds), slower than a sprinting Utahraptor.
  • Trips easily over rocks and terrain, prone to leg breaks
  • Can be over powered by Dilophosaurus, Allosaurus, Carnotaurus and Diabloceratops

Evrima[]

Pros:[]

  • High stamina
  • Exceptional scent range
  • Good bleed resistance
  • Fast attack speed
  • Possesses a charged/bacterial bite
  • Scavenger: can eat anything
  • Very dangerous around corpses
  • While eating, becomes immume to damage below a certain threshold

Cons:[]

  • Slow for its size
  • Low hunger time
  • High food consumption
  • Bad hunter
  • Cannibal: Ceratosaurus is part of its own diet, so don't be surprised if an older Cerato or one of your packmates decides to betray and eat you if they get desperate for food.

Trivia[]

  • Based off of the Diabloceratops dossier, Ceratosaurus hunts Diabloceratops in packs due to the weight class of Diabloceratops being heavy for its size.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The original default skin was based off the Ceratosaurus from Jurassic Fight Club.
  • Cerato Growth Morph can be downloaded here
  • In the fifth roadmap update, which as of October 28, 2020, Ceratosaurus will be added along with Magyarosaurus. In this roadmap update, it will be able to eat rotten meat without any ailment affecting it.
  • As of Devblog #26, Ceratosaurus will be coming after Update #6.
