Ankylosaurus is an ankylosaurid thyreophoran known from the Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous.
Ankylosaurus was added to The Isle alongside Suchomimus to Patch 0.0.0.90.
In Real Life[]
Ankylosaurus was one of the last ankylosaurids known, alongside the Nodosaurid Denversaurus. It was up to 6.25 meters (20.5 feet) long, 1.7 meters (5.6 feet) tall and weighed around 6 tonnes (13,200 pounds). It was a herbivorous animal, feeding mostly on low-growing vegetation.
It is unlikely that Ankylosaurus was a particularly swift animal, only capable of short bursts of speed and spending most of their time moving sluggishly about due to their short legs.
Its tail club was 18 inches wide, and the last four vertebrae of Ankylosaurus tail were fused and had ossified tendons; likely to add strength to the club.
The osteoderms of ankylosaurids were thin in comparison to those of other ankylosaurs, and appear to have been strengthened by randomly distributed cushions of collagen fibers. These were structurally similar to Sharpey's fibers and were embedded directly into the bone tissue, a feature unique to ankylosaurids. This would have provided the ankylosaurids with an armor covering which was both lightweight and highly durable, being resistant to breakage and penetration by the teeth of predators. The palpebral bones over the eyes may have provided additional protection for them. Kenneth Carpenter suggested in 1982 that the heavily vascularized armor may also have had a role in thermoregulation as in modern crocodilians.
In The Isle[]
Ankylosaurus are smaller compared to most of the other dinosaurs and one of the slowest. It has a heavy tail club, however, which can deal huge amounts of damage, being able to kill an Allosaurus in 2 hits and Acrocanthosaurus in 4 hits.
Due to its slow nature and it not being able to handle larger, more durable predators, such as Tyrannosaurus Rex it is best in a herd where it has more reliable protection.
General Information[]
Pros:[]
- Very high bone break chance. (Currently removed)
- High damage.
- Relatively high durability.
- Small size makes it harder to spot.
- Like the Stegosaurus it's impossible to Tail Ride.
Cons:[]
- Very Slow.
- Somewhat loud.
- Slow Turn Speed.
- Vulnerable to most Apex Predators.

Behind The Scenes[]
It has been stated by The Isle Development Team that Ankylosaurus will get a rework in the distant future.
So far, we have only seen a screenshot of its new model, which seems to feature slightly shorter legs, a much larger head, shorter neck, and its armor is far more defined.
